Authenticity control of fish and fishery products – New platform FISH-FIT is online

The online platform FISH-FIT provides authentic tissue of important European commercial fish and seafood species. Users may request authentic material, e.g. to confirm the accuracy and reliability of own measurement results. Additionally, FISH-FIT contains a database of DNA sequences of various fish, crustacean, bivalve and cephalopod species.  For traceability, information on the primer used, PCR protocols and references to methods are indicated. Users may identify their own DNA sequences through alignment to database entries using a simple tool provided. Furthermore, FISH-FIT includes a collection of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), further valuable information, references to the literature and links to official standard methods of standardising organisations like DIN, CEN and ISO.

The authentic material and the DNA sequences were provided by SEATRACES partners from France (Muséum National D'Histoire Naturelle), Spain (Instituto de Investigacións Mariñas and AZTI - Ciencia y tecnología marina y alimentaria), Portugal (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera), United Kingdom (Liverpool John Moores University) and Germany (Max Rubner-Institut).

Who can use FISH-FIT?

Official public laboratories and public research institutes that deal with the authenticity of food can register with FISH-FIT. Access to FISH-FIT is possible after registration confirmation. Registration is carried out by  https://www.fish-fit.org/.
