National Breastfeeding Committee
Breast milk is the ideal food for infants. It is optimally adapted to individual needs and provides all the necessary nutrients and fluids required for healthy growth in the first six months of life. On the basis of this knowledge, the National Breastfeeding Committee was established in Germany in 1994. The Committee advises the Federal Government, publishes guidelines and recommendations and supports initiatives to remove existing obstacles to breastfeeding. It seeks to identify breastfeeding problems and, where possible, to remove them.
However, the National Breastfeeding Committee cannot provide individuals with advice on breastfeeding or health issues during breastfeeding. In such cases, the best people to contact are a midwife, a breastfeeding counsellor or a doctor.
