Authenticity control of fish and fishery products – New platform FISH-FIT is online

Controlling the authenticity of fish and fishery products is an important instrument to combat mislabelling, consumer deception as well as illegal fishing. In general, DNA-based methods are used to control the correct commercial name of products, especially for processed products. As part of the European Interreg Atlantic Area Project "SEATRACES: Smart Traceability and Labeling ToolBox for a Sustainable Seafood Production" the Max Rubner-Institut (MRI) was responsible for the development of the online platform FISH-FIT to exchange authentic sample material and enable the alignment of DNA sequences. FISH-FIT was developed to support official European laboratories and research institutes in the authentication of fish and fishery products.
Labelling control of pasture milk

Unlike organic milk and hay milk, which are clearly regulated in producer guidelines and EU regulations, there are no legal requirements for designations such as Alpine milk, farm milk or pasture milk. However, producers of pasture milk guarantee “natural” grazing for at least 120 or even 150 days a year for at least six hours a day. In order to provide options for protecting consumers from false claims, scientists at the Max Rubner-Institute have now examined analytical approaches for identifying pasture milk in detail. ...
