REFOWAS - Pathways to Reduce Food Waste

How can food waste be reduced?

Together with other partners, the Department of Nutritional Behaviour sought ways to reduce the amount of food waste along the entire food value chain in the REFOWAS project.

The REFOWAS project looked for ways to reduce food waste along the entire food value chain. In this context, the Department of Nutritional Behaviour investigatedg the handling of food in private households and using data collected within the framework of NEMONIT on the purchasing, preparation, consumption and throwaway behaviour of consumers. On this basis, approaches and recommendations for action had been derived that contribute to minimising food waste and making households more sustainable as a whole. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the framework of socio-ecological research.
