Weighed food records applied in the NVS II

Weighed food records were kept by 1,021 participants. Twice and for a period of four days each, any and all food consumed was weighed and recorded in a protocol booklet.

Advantages of this method

  • No memory is required from the participants.
  • Weighed food records are considered as very accurate.

Disadvantages

  • Conducting the protocol is very time-consuming and a great effort for the participants.
  • The burden can lead to changes in nutritional habits or incorrect recording.
  • Weighing is problematic when eating out-of-home.
  • An intensive, preferably personal instruction of the participants is necessary.
  • Data entry (paper version) and data preparation are very time-consuming.
  • The method is more suitable for studies with small numbers of participants.
