Weighed food records applied in the NVS II
Weighed food records were kept by 1,021 participants. Twice and for a period of four days each, any and all food consumed was weighed and recorded in a protocol booklet.
Advantages of this method
- No memory is required from the participants.
- Weighed food records are considered as very accurate.
Disadvantages
- Conducting the protocol is very time-consuming and a great effort for the participants.
- The burden can lead to changes in nutritional habits or incorrect recording.
- Weighing is problematic when eating out-of-home.
- An intensive, preferably personal instruction of the participants is necessary.
- Data entry (paper version) and data preparation are very time-consuming.
- The method is more suitable for studies with small numbers of participants.
